How Hoppa measures the work it does for you

Tokens are Hoppa's unit for measuring consumption. Every time Hoppa processes your documents, the work it does is counted in tokens. You can see how many tokens your organisation, workspaces and sessions have used on their Usage tabs.

Why tokens

The AI models and services behind Hoppa change often, and so do their costs. Tokens give you a single, stable measure of work that does not depend on which models or services Hoppa uses behind the scenes. If Hoppa moves to a different model, the way your work is measured stays the same.

As a rough guide, one token represents about one person-hour of work avoided. It is not an exact rule, but it is a useful way to think about the value of a run.

What uses tokens

Tokens are used when a session's workflow runs. Each step of the workflow that does some work uses tokens, and the session's total is the sum of its steps.

  • More demanding work uses more tokens. For example, reading text from a long scanned document uses more than a short one, because the work grows with the number of pages.
  • Steps that do no work are free. When a step is skipped, for example because a file already has results for it, it uses no tokens. See Run a session again.

Rates do not change after the fact

Each run is measured at the token rates in force when it ran. If Hoppa's rates change later, the token count of work already done stays the same.
